My Vision

My Masters is in Psycholog - from Edinburgh University in Scotland. I followed that with postgraduate work in information science. My psychology background - particularly in the areas of cognition and social psychology – (how people “understand” concepts and how they share, or hope to share, concepts) provides part of the basis for the models and systems that I design. People, information users included, do carry multiple models of the information worlds they live in and travel through. I call these worlds their “ontological worlds”. Simply put, it is the task of information workers like myself to provide slices of these ontological worlds - in presentation layers - to users as they seek facts and figures. This makes sense to them.

After my education came my experience. I’ve worked in information management, knowledge management, content strategy and enterprise search strategy and optimization since the late 80s. I've also workd on the sell-side of information products - during the first internet boom of 1999-2002 (or thereabouts).

Industry Experience

I have worked within, and consulted for, industries including strategy consulting, investment banking, wholesale banking and life sciences. I’ve also worked on the sell-side of information products, during the internet boom of the early 2000s, when I worked for a fledgling company designing taxonomy-based information products.

Company Experience

I have worked as an information expert for companies such as Boston Consulting Group and Deutsche Bank in Europe and Wells Fargo Wholesale Bank in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Platform Experience

I am certified on FAST ESP, IBM OmniFind, InXight and am a Convera-certified taxonomy developer, as well as having experience of other information access platforms

Skills

I have built my ontological and lexical/semantics skillsets over the past 15 years. I am an experienced enterprise search product manager and metadata product manager. I have more than 15 years of experience carrying out business analysis in my roles of consultant and product manager.
